Entry Level Exams

NABCEP provides an entry level exam based on their entry level learning objectives. A Candidate who achieves a passing score will receive a document signed by NABCEP’s executive director along with a suitable-for-framing document listing the candidate’s name. A statement indicating that the individual has demonstrated basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation, and operation of the applicable energy system for the Exam taken (PV, Solar Heating, etc.) is also provided. NITE’s entry level training courses are available online or in the classroom.

NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam

If you are new to the industry, we recommend taking our PV Entry Level Training Program. After completing the entry level training, you are qualified to sit for the NABCEP PV Entry Level exam. There is an exam fee of $115. The exam is computerized and can be taken at a NABCEP contracted computer based testing center, widely available across North America. Passing the Entry Level exam allows you to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of PV application, design, installation and operation of photovoltaic systems. Upon passing the exam, you achieve 18 credit hours towards the PV Installation Professional certification exam requirements.

The only way to take the Entry Level exam is through a NABCEP Entry Level exam provider. In order for you to take the exam through NITE, you must have completed our PV Entry Level program.

NABCEP Solar Heating Entry Level Exam

If you are new to the industry, we recommend taking our SH Entry Level Training Program. After completing the entry level training, you are qualified to sit for the NABCEP Solar Heating Entry Level exam. There is an exam fee of $115. Passing the NABCEP Entry Level exam allows you to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of solar heating application, design, installation and operation of solar heating systems.

The only way to take the SH Entry Level exam is through a NABCEP Entry Level exam provider. In order for you to take the exam through NITE, you must have completed our Solar Heating Entry Level program.

Our Solar Heating entry level training program is based on the NABCEP Solar Heating entry level learning objectives:

  • Conducting a site analysis, including load analysis
  • Identifying SH safety practices, standards, codes and certifications
  • Identifying systems for specific climates and applications
  • Identifying proper orientation and installation methods
  • Identifying the proper use of balance of system components and materials
  • Identifying common SH maintenance items
